Sayings and Bossche Bollen

02-05-2007 - Brabants Dagblad

When I’m waiting at the traffic lights at the junction Orthenseweg/Vogelstraat I always briefly look up at PMR’s windows. There has been a new saying hanging there every fortnight since 2002. Usually funny, sometimes a bit insipid, often to the point, and not always fully comprehensible for an outsider. Yesterday the words “Precies! 15 years” hung from the building. What was the case? Precies! had it’s 15th anniversary. The traffic junction was decorated and drivers waiting at the traffic lights were treated to a Bossche Bol [chocolate eclair]. “We are a typical Den Bosch company”, says Marketing Director Eugenie Wijffels, “therefore Bossche Bollen were an obvious choice. Nearly everyone who drives past looks up at our building. These people are our public, they are the ones we wanted to treat”.

Our whole company gets involved with these sayings, but most often its our creative man Jasper de Werd who comes up with the golden idea. After Bonnie St. Clair achieved an absurdly low score in BNN’s intelligence test { IQ of 52} the next day “Dommie [stupid] St. Clair hung from the window. The general public is also welcome to send in ideas via our website, although this doesn’t happen very often. Until recently we had a postman who came in each week with a different idea, but as we don’t see him anymore we think that he has moved to a new area.
When singer and presenter, Gordon was depressed after his boyfriend left him, the words “Gordon Blue” hung from the windows. “Britney Scheers”[shaves] was also topical when Britney Spears had her head shaved. “Weekly we receive telephone calls from people inquiring as to the meaning of a text” says Maaike Brugman, “but after roughly 400 sayings there has never been a complaint”.
